Stop By The Lost Sea in Sweetwater Tennessee For An Adventure Like No Other.
The Lost Sea Adventure in Sweetwater, Tennessee, is unlike any adventure that you have seen, heard about or done before. You are taking an unforgettable adventure into an undersea cavern that dates back to the Pleistocene era. In fact, the tracks of the giant Pleistocene jaguar were found deep inside the cave.
Your journey begins above the ground then you descend three-fourths of a mile down a wide, sloping path into the cave. Your guide will describe the fascinating geological development of the cave. They will also tell you about the caves exciting and colorful history. The Cherokee Indians used the cave and many artifacts have been found in the Council Room of the cavern. And in 1863 a confederate soldier etched the date into the wall with the carbon from his torch.
At the bottom of the cave you will board a glass-bottom boat to tour The Lost Sea. The Sea covers 4 acres and is a Registered National Natural Landmark, due in part to the large collection of rare anthodites, commonly known as “cave flowers”.
If you have an adventurous group you can schedule the Wild Cave Tour where you will explore undeveloped areas of the cave in addition to the regular tour. This is a real treat for Scouts, camps and school and church groups.
Back at the top you can tour and shop along shaded walkways in Old Sweetwater Village. There you can eat, buy sweets, shop in the general Store, pan in the Gem Mine or watch the Glassblower create works of art. The Lost Sea is open every day of the year except for Christmas.
