Sights of the Smoky Mountains – 8 Hour All Day Tour
Enjoy all of the sights and history in and around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Beginning at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center in the upper parking area, transitioning through Pigeon Forge to view one of the oldest parts of the city: The Old Mill District. Built in 1830 and still operating today. After touring the Old Mill District, you will travel in air-conditioned comfort to Wears Valley. During the stop in Wears Valley, you will learn were the area gets it’s name, see the oldest home in the area (built in 1818 ! ) While in Wears Valley you will stop at the Mountain Brothers General Store and stop at Elvira’s Cafe for a delicious lunch cooked from real local ingredients. From Wears Valley you will travel the beautiful and scenic route to Townsend. Once you arrive in Townsend, you will learn about W.B. Townsend and his Little River Lumber Company and the railroad as well as rich history of the area. From Townsend, you will travel on the Foothills Parkway West to Look Rock. There are 3 stops that provide the best photo opportunities in the entire region. Heading down the mountain you will come to historic Cades Cove. Heading into Elkmont, the guides will discuss the local who lived in the area known as the “First Resort in the Smokies”.
